Teen Advisory Board

The Carlsbad Community Anti-Drug/Gang Coalition is seeking applicants to serve on its Teen Advisory Board. Any local teen currently attending grades 9-12 and under 18 years of age is invited to apply. The purpose of the group is to identify and develop a teen-driven strategy to address factors contributing to local prescription drug, nicotine or marijuana abuse as well as neighborhood issues. Group representatives will also advise adult Coalition leaders on a variety of issues.

Board members are expected to:

1) Actively express their viewpoints on the reasons that the abuse/misuse of prescription drugs, marijuana, novel nicotine products, or other drugs is occurring in our community;

2) Actively express their viewpoints on the reasons why measurable problems with neighborhood attachment and neighborhood disorganization, as well as lack of opportunities and rewards for positive teen behavior exist here;

3) Develop and assist in implementation of a teen-driven program to address one or more of the problems named above;

4) Elect at least two Board members to represent the opinion of the group with the Coalition’s Community Board, an adult group that meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 4:00 PM at Carlsbad City Hall;

5) Have a great time while making a REAL difference in the community.
