A presentation on identifying and preventing gang activity in neighborhoods and families will occur Tuesday, Feb. 24, 7:00 PM in the 2nd floor classroom at Riverwalk Recreation Center on Muscatel Ave.  Seating

Way to go, Carlsbad!! Neighborhood heroes win national recognition

We have some very happy news to share! The National Association of Town Watch, the organization that administers National Night Out (NNO) the first Tuesday in August of every year, has chosen Carlsbad as a top NNO community for 2008. Here is an excerpt from the letter by Matt Peskin, NNO National Project Coordinator:

1) 14 year old female identified as Maribel Lopez. 5 feet 6 inches, weight 103 pounds. Brown hair and brown eyes. Date of birth 03-25-94. Last seen at the intersection of Church and Lamont wearing a pink shirt, blue jeans, and white and pink shoes.

2) 16 year old female identified as Persethyni Carrasco. 4 foot 11 inches, weight 170 pounds. Brown hair and brown eyes. Date of birth 06-01-92. Last seen at 403 E. Greene (Dottie Dee’s) unknown what she was wearing. She will have her 6 month old son identified as Santiago Carrasco with her.

You Make a Difference--annual prayer gathering; Red Ribbon Week

Thanks to everyone who participated in the 5th annual prayer gathering on Saturday evening, October 18. Our time together was enhanced by the light of handheld candles, singing to lovely guitar music by David Bryant, the organization of Alison Bryant and Joe Epstein, and insights by Woods Houghton. The Faith Based Action Group of the Coaition was represented by Alison, Woods and Ken Hargues. Thanks to City Councilor Paul Aguilar for helping me hold that banner, and to everyone who pitched in to help pass around supplies.

AG King: Alcoholic Energy Drinks Hurting Youth MillerCoors Asked to Drop New Product

(ALBUQUERQUE)---Attorney General Gary King today joined 25 other state's attorneys general in asking MillerCoors, LLC to abandon its plan to introduce a new alcoholic energy drink -- Sparks Red -- that contains significantly elevated alcohol content.
