Thomas Edison said "80 per cent of success is showing up," and that's what Eddy County did for National Night Out (NNO) on August 3-4. NNO was observed not just in Carlsbad this year, but also at one block party "in the county," and four block parties in Artesia, the latter sponsored by Artesia Police Department. In southern Eddy County, there were 31 block parties (including the first-ever mall party, thank you Carlsbad Mall for jumping on board), at locations all over town.
National Night Out is almost here!
Get ready, Carlsbad! You've made National Night Out (NNO) a huge success, even winning national recognition last year. We so much appreciate our first response personnel, volunteer movers and shakers, and sponsors for their support. This year's schedule is spread over two evenings to maximize the fun.
Monday, August 3 is the 2nd Annual NNO 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk, co-sponsored by Cavern City Runners. Entry form is attached. Following the run is a STREET DANCE, sponsored by GMoney Productions. Both events will take place on the courthouse lawn, near and on Canyon Street.

This is a simple program designed to reduce the production of methamphetamine (“meth”) in our community, and also discourage the misuse of certain health products by people

In our travels about town, Coalition Preventionist Alison Bryant and I have heard, far too often and from people of all ages, a theme of "fear of retaliation" for reporting crime. We have also heard a number of incredible, inspiring true stories of crimes that were resolved, or busts that were made following a series of crimes, with one citizen's simple tip as a turning point in the case.
